About my astrolabes
Since they were first invented by the ancient Greeks, up until a few centuries ago, astrolabes were an astronomer's most valuable tool and were often beautifully designed and had to be painstakingly handcrafted. In recent times, because of the invention of more sophisticated instruments, astrolabes have been largely forgotten but are a very important part of history nonetheless.Although traditionally made out of metal, the ones offered here are laser-cut and engraved with high precision on birch wood. This gives them a unique look and more affordable pricing than other astrolabes currently available.
Two different designs are available for any Northern latitude, they measure 15 centimeters, or 6 inches in diameter, have 38 stars on the rete, and can be personalized with a custom engraving on the back. A simple instruction booklet is included, which features a chart of all the stars shown on the astrolabe.
